After a few "hiccups" (on my part before our meet-!) up at our hotel, a very pleasant tour guide and private car was waiting for us without any "worries". Francesca was / is very knowledgeable with the Vatican, very conversational (without being over-whelming to spend time), attentive, courteous, and pointed out all the places of interest. She knows how to follow the "priority" lines into Vatican City, and when our family wanted to take a little bit more time at a specific area of interest during our tour, it was never a problem. Her professional background working as an archeologist during Roman excavation is an asset to "tourists". We thank you! The Coates Family - Florida - USA

We had a private tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum with Alessandro, and it was truly outstanding. Alessandro isn’t just a guide—he’s also an archaeologist, which meant he brought a depth of knowledge and perspective that made the history come alive. He explained not only what happened in these places, but also the fascinating details of how artifacts and structures were uncovered. He kept the tour moving at a pace we appreciated, but always allowed us time to pause for photos whenever we wanted. He even recommended the best spots for pictures and knew exactly where to stop for shade so we could rest comfortably while he shared stories about what we were seeing. One of the highlights was his book of illustrations, which showed us vivid reconstructions of how everything would have looked in ancient times—it added so much to the experience. Overall, it was a fantastic tour worth every moment. If you’re visiting, I highly recommend requesting Alessandro specifically—his expertise and thoughtful guidance make the history of Rome unforgettable.

We took the “Private Borghese Gallery Tour with Hotel Pick-up and Drop-off” from Eyes of Rome on December 26. We were picked up on-time at our hotel by the tour’s driver and dropped off at the Villa Borghese and met immediately by our personal guide, Silvia, who greeted us warmly and immediately started setting the context of what we were about to see with the history of the Aurelian wall, Roman life in the 1600s, and the concept of the “villa suburbana,” all of which is quite necessary for a full appreciation of the wonder that is the Galleria Borghese. She explained to us the relation of the Galleria’s founder Cardinal Scipione Borghese and his position as the Cardinal Nephew to Pope Paul V, which gave him political power over the Papal States. Silvia told us of the original plan of the gardens and the vivarium, which housed species from all over the world- plants and birds respectively, which was foundational to understanding the art collection to come. For context, I have twice visited the Galleria Borghese in 1996 and 2010, but it was my husband’s first visit to the Galleria and, in fact, to Rome. Our tour impressed, entertained, and satiated the curiosity of both of us equally– not an easy feat, for sure. We appreciated that Silvia structured the tour as much as possible as the Galleria was meant to be experienced (unwinding, if philosophically, the changes to the sequence of rooms necessitated by current COVID protocols). Silvia was knowledgeable, personable, funny, and very well-versed in the history of the Borghese family, the Papacy as related to it, and the artists (Bernini, Carvaggio, etc.) and their works featured in the museum. Among the highlights for us: *A very informative but also witty and humorous study comparing the depiction (and by extrapolation the characterization) of Venus painted with Cupid by two artists– Cranachi (il vecchio) and Brescianino, an eye-opening discussion about the differing regional attitudes toward women at the time *Revealing the technique but also the humanity of Caravaggio with a thorough education on the ‘Madonna dei Palafrenieri.’ Some of why the painting would have been a shocking portrayal of Mary, Jesus, and St. Anne may be obvious, but understanding all the details– Mary’s plainly visible underskirt– contemporary of the artist’s time, the wrinkled, withered portrayal of St. Anne (the Vatican chapel bearing her name being the intended destination for this work, where it was ultimately rejected), and the still-astounding use of light in darkness was extremely interesting and enriching to our experience *A 360-degree analysis of Bernini’s Baroque masterpiece Apollo and Daphne (starting with Silvia ensuring we averted our eyes to view the sculpture first from the right-hand side, as intended by the artist himself prior to the statue being moved) gave us a complete understanding of this work. Viewing the sculpture– which I had seen before but never from the vantage point encouraged by our guide– this way gives the complete story of Daphne’s encapsulation into the tree depicted here and Apollo’s (non-)reaction. When the delicately carved, paper-thin tree bark was pointed out to us, you could almost feel the heartbeat that Apollo would have felt as his hand grasped it. I appreciated the details of the windswept hair turning into leaves, which also stemmed from her hands, and the roots emanating from her foot, details I had not really fully appreciated before. I would highly recommend Eyes of Rome and specifically our guide Silvia. I cannot enumerate with words how much more I appreciated the Galleria Borghese with her expert and naturally flowing guidance and historical context. We had a fantastic time that we will not soon forget.

We booked a day long excursion through Eyes of Rome whom we were very pleased with. We had a chauffeur Francisco who picked us from the port in a beautiful BMW. He drove very carefully as my wife is a nervous passenger. We arrived in the centre of Rome where we met our guide Rosalba. She took us firstly to the Vatican and Sistine chapel. I am not very good on my feet so she suggested we took a wheelchair and she pushed me around. It was a good plan as there was a lot of walking and steps. There was a lot to see and we only saw a fraction. The Sistine chapel was magnificent and also the sculptures, paintings and tapestries. Rosalba’s knowledge was incredible and there was nothing she did not know. We then visited St Peter’s sqare, but it was too busy to go into the Basilica. Once again Rosalba talked about the Pope and how new Pope’s were elected. A fascinating morning. We also visited by limousine the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum and the Pantheon. We would never have been able to do in a small group and have the personal attention we had and learned so much without Rosalba and Francisco. Eyes of Rome listened to what we wanted in our short stay in Rome and provided the most memorable day for us. We can only say a big thank you to everyone who made our holiday very special, We have no hesitation in booking again with Eyes of Rome. Ken & Elaine

My recent experience on the Roman Forum and Colosseum tour was an absolute highlight of my visit to Rome. Led by the energetic and incredibly knowledgeable guide, Elisa, the tour brought the rich history of these ancient landmarks to life in a way that was both engaging and enlightening. From the moment the tour began, Elisa's enthusiasm was contagious. Her vibrant energy set the tone for the entire experience, ensuring that every participant was fully engaged and eager to explore the wonders of the Roman Forum and Colosseum. Her passion for the subject matter was evident, and it made the tour not only informative but also truly enjoyable. One aspect of Elisa's expertise that truly stood out was her use of modern technology to enhance the tour. Her tablet was a treasure trove of references, visual aids, and insights that she seamlessly integrated into her commentary. These references provided invaluable perspective, allowing us to visualize the grandeur of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum as they once were. This thoughtful approach demonstrated Elisa's commitment to delivering a comprehensive experience that catered to various learning styles. Elisa's kindness, intelligence, and articulate communication were a testament to her exceptional qualities as a guide. She patiently answered every question, ensuring that even the most intricate inquiries were met with clear and insightful responses. Her ability to convey complex historical details in a relatable manner was truly impressive, leaving everyone in the group with a deep appreciation for the significance of these ancient ruins. What truly set Elisa apart was her remarkable skill in bringing the ruins to life. Through her vivid storytelling, the Roman Forum and Colosseum transformed from mere remnants of the past into living monuments with stories to tell. Her narratives bridged the gap between the present and the ancient times, allowing us to envision the vibrant history that once unfolded within these hallowed grounds. My experience on this tour was so remarkable that I'm already eagerly anticipating my next trip to Rome. Without a doubt, Elisa's guidance played an integral role in making this tour an unforgettable memory. I'm looking forward to returning to Rome and, when I do, I will not hesitate to seek out Elisa for another amazing tour. Moreover, Elisa's thoughtful recommendations extended beyond the tour itself. She provided a list of book titles that would allow us to delve deeper into the history and culture of ancient Rome from the comfort of our homes. This thoughtful gesture speaks to her dedication to fostering a lasting connection between her guests and the city's rich heritage. The Roman Forum and Colosseum tour with Elisa was a remarkable journey through time, artfully blending history and entertainment. Her energetic demeanor, technological enhancements, and insightful explanations truly elevated the experience. If you're seeking a guide who can transform ancient ruins into captivating tales, look no further than Elisa. I can't wait to return to Rome and embark on another unforgettable tour under her expert guidance.

I have been on quite a few city breaks and always hire a private guide to either walk me around a specific building or for a city tour. On this occasion I had travelled to Rome with my mother (who is partially deaf) and as part of the holiday wanted to treat her to a guided tour of the Vatican. We met our tour guide Rosie outside the Vatican and had a four hour tour, which was, in all honesty, the best guided tour that I have ever experienced. Rosie was brilliant with my mother who is quite elderly and was so knowledgeable - I had studied the religious reformation (England and Luther) at an undergraduate level and Rosie really knows the history of the Vatican complex (including pre church), the Catholic Church (including all of the symbolism of architecture, monuments etc) and she tied this all together fantastically into what was the most memorable experience. If I could rate Rosie more highly than five stars I would.

We did a 3-hour classic Vatican tour in the afternoon with our wonderful guide Elisa. We were picked up in a Mercedes van at our hotel on time and met Elisa right outside Vatican. Elisa was a great guide to have given her education in and knowledge of art history and her ability to engage all of us with relevant information including our 12 years old daughter. She took time before the start of the tour to explain intricate details of the fresco and other art works on her iPad so that while being physically present inside, we could focus more on admiring the masterpieces. Logistically too it was amazing to have her with us, as we managed to access several skip-the-line access points. We did the tour on the eve of Good Friday and the regular lines outside the Vatican as well as other venues inside were truly frightening.

\ We booked the guided tour in Spanish to the Vatican (Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica) with private tour and early access. Eyes of Rome contacted us a couple of days after the booking to suggest a small change in the order of the itinerary, and made sure that everything was set correctly and to our liking: a 10 for the management. On the day of the tour a private car picked us up punctually at the hotel and 15 minutes after we were comfortably entering the Vatican Museums, without waiting a minute in any queue, which was very important for us when traveling with an elderly person. The same can be said for the rest of the accesses, as well as the visit itself, which allowed us to do the different tours with hardly any crowds (despite it being a Saturday). We also have nothing but praise for the guide who accompanied us, Azzurra. Not only was it a pleasure to listen to her explanations throughout the tour, but it was clear that she was able to modulate the depth of the explanations and to emphasize or overlook one or another specific aspect depending on our level of interest: personally I find it difficult to "connect" with guided tours when I perceive that the person in charge just repeats a speech that has already been memorized, but this is a totally different kind of experience. Very friendly and with a very clear Spanish, we only regretted not asking her more questions during the visit (always very interesting answers). The three hours of the tour flew by, and we have no doubt that for a special visit, it is worth the money to maximize the experience and forget about queues, crowds and too large groups with heterogeneous interests that are difficult to reconcile for a single guide. Very happy.

We booked the “Private Borghese Gallery Tour with Hotel Pick-up and Drop-off” from Eyes of Rome on October 21, before the Omicron variant placed our present trip to Rome very much up in the air. Happily we were able to make it to Rome and to experience this wonderful, personalized tour of what I think is the greatest collection of treasures in Rome on December 26. We were picked up on-time at our hotel by the tour’s driver who was well-informed and effective with regard to the current COVID protocols, helping us to ensure we had the appropriate type of mask required and our physical vaccination proof (we had assumed digital versions would suffice, but this is not currently the case in Rome or at least not for the Villa Borghese). Another tour operator probably wouldn’t have checked for these items and we would have missed the entire experience. We were dropped off at the Villa Borghese and met immediately by our personal guide, Silvia, who greeted us warmly and immediately started setting the context of what we were about to see with the history of the Aurelian wall, Roman life in the 1600s, and the concept of the “villa suburbana,” all of which is quite necessary for a full appreciation of the wonder that is the Galleria Borghese.

Our party of six enjoyed the private tour of the Vatican very much. Alessia was an excellent guide: very professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Since it was New Year's Eve, the tour company arranged to pick us up earlier than originally scheduled so that we would be able to see all of the Vatican before its early closing. Alessia expertly led us through the extremely crowded Vatican, and we did not miss a thing. We would not have been able to navigate the day without her guidance. It was truly a memorable tour that we highly recommend.

Francesco was our guide for a walking ‘Angels and Demons’ tour for our large group of 13 which included 7 children (ages 4-13). Although we weren’t sure if walking all over Rome with little ones in slightly rainy weather was a good idea Francesco made the tour accommodating and entertaining. Learned so much about many unknown Roman facts and the background stories that made them. We also did the Colosseo tour with him as well and were very grateful to not have to spend so much time and energy in lines buying tickets and time reading placards since I can never concentrate on those things while also keeping an eye on my kids. It was nice to know that if I felt I missed something he was able to fill me in as we walked. Highly recommend for making the most out of your time in Rome and enjoying your holiday with friends and family. Great memories!

We had a private family tour of the Colosseum and Roman forum with Elisa. The tour was truly excellent. While the Colosseum and Forum were unusually busy when we went (public holiday), Elisa swiftly navigated us through the crowds and into the Colosseum. She was highly knowledgeable and supplemented her descriptions with a photographic presentation which really helped us to understand the history of this remarkable construction. Importantly, she also made it fun for our children who loved the tour. The tour continued with a walk through the Roman Forum. Again, Elisa's genuine love for the history of her city shone through and we found this part of the tour very interesting and entertaining. The price for the tour was fair and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Eyes of Rome and Elisa, our guide, to anyone interested in learning more about the incredible history of this amazing city.

From the moment our guide (Elisa) picked us up, until drop-off, the time spent was invaluable & unforgettable. We were upgraded to an earlier start at the Vatican for free, since it was Good Friday. Truly skipped the lines & throngs of people waiting. The Vatican & St. Peter’s Basilica’s history, artwork, culture & heritage was explained knowledgeably by Elisa including some stories known to only those behind the scenes. which mesmerized & captivated our 17 & 12 year olds. Vacation time is precious, give yourself the gift of a private tour with Eyes of Rome. Elisa, Grazie!

My family has been to Rome before but my sons couldn't really remember the Colosseum since they were very young. Also we didn't have a family-friendly tour guide like Serena with us back then. Serena picked us up at our accommodation and from the get go gave us a lot of information about Rome. We learned a lot from her. Even though I've been to the Colosseum 3 times already I learned the most during this trip. The boys specially enjoyed it since they had just finished training at the gladiator school so a visit to the Colosseum rounded things off for them and Serena incorporated this information into what she shared with us. She had a lot of photos, pictures and videos to share with us to bring the sites to life. She also asked the boys questions to keep them alert and interested. Serena was friendly, kind and thoughtful. She made a point of finding somewhere comfortable and away from the crowds for us to sit while she told us about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. She got snacks for the boys when she noticed their energy flagging (after doing Gladiator training and walking a lot). She also gave us recommendations on what else would be interesting for the boys and also good places to find pasta, pizza and, most importantly, gelato! Frigidarium was great! Thank you Serena. We feel like we made a friend in Rome.

We did two tours, the Colosseum (including the Underground and Hypogeum) and the Early Bird Vatican and St. Peter's Tours, both with Stefania. We are a family of four and had our 12yo and nearly 15yo with us. Stefania was an excellent match for a family. We had another outstanding and highly qualified guide in another city following Rome, and the kids thought she paled in comparison to Stefania. Of course they appreciated Stefania's knowledge and willingness to answer questions, but they loved her energy and enthusiasm. One of the kids remarked that she never made us stop moving just to stop, look, and listen to her talk, by which I think he meant he felt fully engaged the entire time. I highly recommend the Underground and Hypogeum at the Colosseum if it is available and you are able to spend extra. The workings of the Colosseum from below were the most interesting to my teen and really added context and color to the history of the building. The more or less private view from the highest tier far away from the bulk of the crowds was also worth it. It was worth getting up early for the Vatican and St. Peter's tours, because we were able to enjoy the Sistine Chapel and Raphael Rooms before it was SRO. We were even able to find multiple seats from which to peruse the Sistine Chapel ceiling. As a Renaissance art lover, I was disappointed that we didn't get to see more of the rest of the Vatican's collection, but if I'm honest, we saw all that the kids realistically had patience and interest in. We visited on New Year's Eve, and much of St. Peter's was closed off in preparation for the next day's papal mass. That was a disappointment, particularly because I'd been waiting 17 years to see Michelangelo's Pieta again. I would recommend inquiring when papal masses will be and try to schedule around them, particularly if you are visiting around the Christmas/New Year's holiday. I highly recommend Stefania as a guide and would hire her again if returning to Rome.

Truly special tours with Eyes of Rome. Our group of 7 had three tours set up with Eyes of Rome. First 4 of us went on an and evening food and wine tour and had an amazing time! Our guide Francesco made it a very special tour. I felt like a friend was giving us the real low down on eating and drinking in Rome. We started at a Norcinaria and learned a ton about the tradition of curing meats and making salami. We had a full array of salami, prosciutto, and cured meats paired with a light and crispy Grechetto. Next we went to a cheese shop and had a really cool and delicious group of cheeses to try. Francesco paired this with a really good Nebbiolo. The tour finished with a visit to a cool little restaurant/pasticceria for typical roman snacks and some really good Italian Carmenere. Im still trying to figure out how the traditional charcoal bread was so good! Francesco's insight and recommendations regarding food really helped us plan and perfect our eating for the rest of the trip! Next our group of 7 including an 8 year old, took a tour of the forum and the Colosseum. Francesco led us on a fun and informative tour with excellent history and an extremely engaging perspective. Even the young one was entertained. the tour was fantastic and it was totally worth to climb to the top of the Colosseum and enjoy the amazing view of history. Our last tour with Eyes of Rome was an early bird tour of the Vatican and a trip to the dome. Again, Francesco gave us such a good insight and really interesting perspective on the history, architecture and art of this amazing place. I loved his combination of knowledge and humor, it really made this tour memorable. I must thank Eyes of Rome and especially Francesco for his guidance and recommendations. He really helped make this trip great!

We had a very interesting and informative tour, which was expected; however, this particular tour with Maria Ida Moretti was exceptional. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of Vatican history was top-notch, and her personality made history come alive for us. We highly recommend this private tour. It made for a wonderful morning in Rome. We would definitely want Maria to be our guide on any future tours. We felt so comfortable with her and now have a new friend in Rome. Sandra and Don Kunz

We had an awesome tour with Maria Ida! It made things so much easier to have a guide when it came to lines and avoiding the wait. She had all the tickets set up in advanced and along with that was an incredibly informative tour! Our tour was the highlight of our trip to Rome and we would certainly recommend! Thanks Maria!

What a wonderful and informative tour with Maria Ida Moretti. Maria picked us up at our hotel and ordered a taxi for us. We didn't realize that it would just be our family and Maria, which was great. Even on the cab ride over she was full of interesting information about the Vatican and Rome. She was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. It was a mob scene at the Vatican and we flew past all the lines. We also had access to a private area at the vatican. Maria gave us a lot of information before entering some of the areas so we definitely knew what we were looking at. We were with her for 4 hours, that flew by very quickly. She gave us ideas of where to eat and other places to see. If we go back to Rome, I am definitely searching her out. She was absolutely amazing and such a delight. Eyes of Rome tour company is a must!

This review is regarding Eyes of Rome, and in particular our tour guide, Stefania, who was FANTASTIC! She is very knowledgeable, easy going, funny and made our time in Rome one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. We have two teenage kids who also enjoyed the tours with her, and felt that they learned so much. I couldn't imagine having as good of a time without her guidance! Highly recommend this company and in particular, Stefania!

Simone was our guide for the Vatican and hidden gems tour. What a day! There was so much to see, we were able to skip several lines and with his expert guidance we breezed through the most hectic crowds. If you are even just thinking of doing this kind of tour, do not hesitate. You will not be disappointed. The time, effort and knowledge went a long way. When we left we all knew more of Roman history. The thing that really blew us away was the attention to detail that we would have missed, like what was in the paintings and why, mosaics, statues and so much morel

Our tour guide Karin Libri provided us with the perfect combination of knowledge, insight, and laughter of these magical landmarks. We could not have hoped for a more rewarding experience, and better guidance in learning about this complex and fascinating part of Rome. She had answers to all our questions and it almost felt as if we walking through Ancient Rome. Brava Karin!

Our hotel recommended "Eyes of Rome" and it turned out to be an outstanding recommendation. Under the brilliant guidance of tour guide Maria, six of us went on two amazing adventures including the Vatican, and the Colosseum and surrounding areas. Rome has now become my favorite city in the world. Maria's English is outstanding and her depth of knowledge remarkable. And, she has great passion for Rome, it's history and the work she does. I learned so much during these tours. Thank you Maria for making tours fun!

We went on the special early morning private Vatican tour just my wife and I and our brilliant tour guide Marida such a knowledgable guide who not only knew all about the buildings and exhibits where to take the best photos, she also knew how to avoid crowds charm the guards to allow us to skip queues and take short cuts across the dreaded roped off areas our tour lasted 3.5 hours and we covered so much ground and history and art wonderful! This Tour is worth every penny a great memory.
