We had an absolutely FANTASTIC tour experience with Michela from “Eyes of Rome Private Tours”! She was so friendly and knowledgeable! She shared so many interesting facts about what life was like during the time the Colosseum was built. She showed us many different vantage points to take pictures from. We toured through the Colosseum’s many areas and she really made it “come to life”! I told her “I can hear the roar of the crowds”! We then went on to the Roman Forum and she gave us so much background and history about the different structures. Both my husband and I feel it was a once in a lifetime experience created by a very passionate tour guide who clearly loves her work. We HIGHLY recommend this tour and Michela!

We had such a great time on our Colosseum tour! Our guide was friendly, super knowledgeable, and made everything really fun and easy to follow. She adjusted the tour so our kids stayed interested and even added little moments to keep them engaged. You could tell she really loves what she does, which made it even better. Highly recommend for families!

Our family did two Eyes of Rome tours, and this one really stood out! Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the Colosseum come alive. What we especially appreciated was how she encouraged us to share what we were interested in and then adjusted the tour so easily—without ever losing the quality or depth. She kept my kids engaged the whole time, and that is an achievement when its so hot during the day. She made the experience fun and memorable for everyone. Highly recommend!

We had a private tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum with Alessandro, and it was truly outstanding. Alessandro isn’t just a guide—he’s also an archaeologist, which meant he brought a depth of knowledge and perspective that made the history come alive. He explained not only what happened in these places, but also the fascinating details of how artifacts and structures were uncovered. He kept the tour moving at a pace we appreciated, but always allowed us time to pause for photos whenever we wanted. He even recommended the best spots for pictures and knew exactly where to stop for shade so we could rest comfortably while he shared stories about what we were seeing. One of the highlights was his book of illustrations, which showed us vivid reconstructions of how everything would have looked in ancient times—it added so much to the experience. Overall, it was a fantastic tour worth every moment. If you’re visiting, I highly recommend requesting Alessandro specifically—his expertise and thoughtful guidance make the history of Rome unforgettable.

This tour was a fabulous experience from start to finish. Our private tour guide was so knowledgeable about the site and gave such insight to the tour. Her help was invaluable as well because of the increased crowds in Rome due to the Jubilee and it being a naturally crowded time of year for tourists visiting. I would book this tour again without question!

We did a private Forum and Colosseum (Belvedere level) tour with Katie and it was such a great experience! She is is friendly and knowledgeable, it was like touring with a Roman history professor. We also did a Vatican private tour with Elisa D. and she was equally as friendly and knowledgeable about everything Vatican. We learned so much history from both of these tours. All in all, this is a top level tour company and we will definitely recommend them to anyone we know visiting Italy! We would absolutely use them again the next time we visit Rome!

This was a great tour and well worth the money. Stefania showed us around the Colosseum, explaining the architecture, explaining what we were seeing from the floor, giving us a view from the emperor's box, etc, for about 1.5 hours. Then we walked over to the Forum and again she explained what we were seeing. She was also attentive to my desire to take photos here and there and our limited ability to climb a large number of steps. Overall a great tour!

We had such a fantastic tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We were met at our air bnb by our guide and the private driver who whisked us through the city to the Colosseum. Our guide Rosalba (Rosie) was just fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and delivered the history of the Forum and Colosseum with ease while keeping our interest the entire time. I can't imagine not having her to guide us through these incredible sites. We would have missed so much. We also had Rosie take us on the Vatican tour the following day. Again, she demonstrated her deep knowledge of the history of the museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. With so much to see she was able to give us enough information to make the tour very enjoyable (age range for the 4 of us was 21 yo to 59 yo) and not overwhelming. I am so grateful that a friend recommended Eyes of Rome and even more grateful that we had Rosie as our guide!

We did a private tour with Rosalba while we were in Rome, and it was because of her that made our experience so informative and special. She did an amazing job with providing knowledge, history, and stories-- while also bringing her personality to the tour (which made it very engaging and entertaining). We were able to ask a lot of questions, but she was also so understanding if we just wanted to take in the scenery. I would absolutely recommend Rosalba as a tour guide for anyone who is hoping to experience Rome in a more intentional way!

The Colosseum is such an amazing place. Maria made centuries old history come to life. There is so about those times in Ancient Rome much I’ve never known. Although my husband and I walk 4 miles a day, we wanted to conserve our steps so we could be active for the entire day, even after the tour. Maria was wonderful. She knew every nook and cranny and got us to all available elevators with no wait! You will learn so much in a fun way and be surprised by many things you never knew. Our guide, Barbara, did a great job getting us through all the crowds & chaos of the Colosseum. She was very knowledgeable and energetic. So many new areas have been opened up since our last visit so that was great to see. We especially enjoyed visiting some of the new sectors in the Forum. It’s hot and it’s crowded so go early. We had a very nice tour with Emanuele. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the subject of our tours and even had a binder of pictures, drawings and renderings of how the Colosseum and Roman Forum looked during their peak. Given his years of experience and Art History knowledge he even had information about subjects that were not technically part of our tour but was more than happy to share with us as we queried him with questions about Roman history and Art. Sometimes guides can move through the tour too quickly to make sure they cover all the topics and subjects, but we never felt rushed and still covered all the major points of interest.. and then some. 10/10 for us. Our guide, Silvia, was fantastic! Her tour of the Colosseum was very interesting and she happily and easily answered all of our questions. I wish I could give this tour 5 stars, but, through no fault at all of this company, I cannot look back on this day and call it “Excellent”. As we were leaving the Colosseum to head to the Forum, a member of our group experienced a medical emergency. Silvia very quickly alerted security and called for an ambulance. She then stayed as long as she could to act as translator. The driver was very prompt to pick us up before the tour, and was very patient at end, eventually returning 4 of us to our accommodations. Silvia was honestly concerned about us, and continued communications into the evening and the next day, making sure we were all okay. She absolutely went above and beyond and I highly recommend this tour.

We were picked up at our hotel and taken directly to the Colosseum. As soon as we exited the vehicle we were immediately greeted by our expert guide, Rafaella. I cannot properly describe how amazing she was throughout the entire tour. A gifted guide that left my entire family talking for days about how amazing this tour was. My Father is hard-of-hearing and Rafaella is the only tour guide that he could properly follow at every step of the tour. She is a natural speaker and a kind teacher. I must now include a very unique above-and-beyond moment that we experienced with this group. At the end of the tour, we asked to get a picture with our guide, so the driver stepped up to take the pic. So awesome! He then offered to take us anywhere we wanted, really...but we just wanted to go back to our hotel at that point. While driving us back, he was telling us all about the city as we went. I asked him for a recommendation for a restaurant in the area. He gave us a great reco and then dropped us off at our hotel. My family then walked to eat at his recommended restaurant where I received a phone call that someone in my family had forgotten their sweater in his car. He drove the sweater back to me at the restaurant and handed it to me! Much respect for this group of people, everyone from the drivers to the tour guide, Rafaella. I cannot give more praise. 5 Stars.

We took a private tour of the Colosseum and Forum with Katie Farrar. Our tour was in English; Katie is a native English speaker and also fluent in Italian. She was a phenomenal tour guide, and we highly recommend her. I’m sure it would be awe-inspiring to go to these historical sites even without a guide, but Katie made the experience so much more educational, insightful, and memorable. She shared critical historical context that put the ruins in perspective, and she adeptly answered our many questions. It was incredible to be able to ask a deeply knowledgeable guide about such a wide range of topics and to trust that we were getting accurate, nuanced answers. Katie brought an iPad with images that helped visualize what these sites would have looked like nearly two thousand years ago; that was a nice touch that helped further bring things to life. Katie also has a wonderful energy. She is clearly so passionate about these topics, and her genuine enthusiasm is contagious. If everyone had a history teacher with Katie’s knowledge and passion, we’d have many more students excited about the subject! She was also calm, patient, and accommodating to our needs, as we had our toddler with us. Arranging everything with Eyes of Rome was seamless, and their staff couldn’t have been kinder or easier to work with. We would love to take more tours with Eyes of Rome (and Katie in particular!) in the future and recommend them without hesitation.

There are simply not words to explain how amazing our tour with Katie was! Her knowledge, passion and love for everything we visited help to make this such a special day for us. Not only was she able to bring the historic landmarks to life, but she also talked with us about current life in Italy and was happy to answer ALL of our questions - both historical and current. The time absolutely flew by! Definitely do this tour, and DEFINITELY ASK FOR KATIE!

Overall the tour was a success and very good. I'm not sure the value for the luxury option is worth it. The hotel pickup and drop off was very smooth and easy. The tour guide was great and the whole experience is great. Just not sure the extra money spent on getting to the arena floor is worth it.

Excellent guide, Gianluca Pica via Eyes of Rome. Booked last minute given was let down by Viator/original tour company and had to book last minute as a result. Hadn't planned on booking fully private but availability was somewhat limited and hence the tour was considerably more expensive than planned. That said, enjoyable, informative tour of both the Colloseum and Forum which I am happy recommending. Excellent tour guide, rating more an indication of the Viator experience than the tour guide/company who conducted the tour. In fact I emailed Viator directly with this feedback and thus far haven't had so much as a response.

Our guide Elisa was knowledgeable, fun and entertaining! We had a great time exploring the Colosseum and its arena. She really made the history come to life when describing what a typical Roman day at the Colosseum was like for all those who attended, from the wealthy aristocrats and politicians down to the peasants. From tales of gladiator battles and wild exotic animals to the amazing structure itself we were amazed. This is a great tour for those with kids ready to explore. Our 12 year old son and daughter who's in college were riveted with the information and loved Elisa's humor, wit and personality. After covering the Colosseum we headed to the Roman Forum and the made our way through triumphant arches and amazing temples. It was a great experience that really immersed us in roman history and got us up close and personal with the site. First class private tour with a first class guide! What more could we ask for?

Alesia was able to answer all of our questions and took pictures for us as well. We only hit the highlights of the Roman Forum but that was due to our preference since the day was very hot. Our group of 13 (ranging in age from 11-69) had two amazing days of touring with Eyes of Rome. Sara did an excellent job of coordinating and creating our custom itinerary. Originally, I booked our two days of touring for our group of 8 several months ago. However, two weeks prior to the trip, we added my sister-in-law and her family (5 total people) to the trip. Rome is currently busier now than it was precovid, yet Sara was able to expand all of our tours from 8 to 13 participants. We were able to see the major sites of Rome, including a golf cart site seeing / food tour, the Vatican Museum, the Forums, and the Colosseum. Eyes of Tome also coordinated are transfers from the airport and the the cruise port. Our guide, Marta, was excellent, clearly loves Rome, and is truly gifted at her craft. Marta was extremely knowledgeable about Rome and it's vast history, very accommodating of our group of 13, with a wide range of ages with three generations of family, and extremely friendly. Our group came away from our two days of touring with a great sense of Rome's history and made memories to last a lifetime, all thanks to the expert guiding of Marta. I can't recommend Marta, Sara, and Eyes of Rome enough for custom private touring in Rome.

First time visit to Rome and wanted that little bit extra so our hotel booked a private tour quite to the Colosseum and Forum. Our guide “Alessandro” was already sitting in the hotel foyer waiting for us. I won’t explain about the tour, that would spoil it if you never visited Rome. I will tell you about Alessandro though. As I’ve already explained he was punctual which is good. He introduced himself, explained what our 3 hour tour would entail then went on to tell us he’s a vastly experienced archeologist and is passionate about his work. He’s very easy to get on with and very laid back. Alessandro ensured the tour was at our pace and always made sure we were okay and well looked after. His knowledge of the history of Rome is phenomenal and whatever questions you ask he has an answer. Alessandro likes to be asked questions and the tour wasn’t pushed along and he’s happy for you to take as many pictures as you want. He made the tour fun but really very interesting at the same time so the 3 hours went by so quickly I can honestly say book Alessandro, it’s definitely money well spent. Cheers Alessandro from Lord and Lady Evans.

I was fortunate enough to take a private tour of the Colosseum in Rome with Stefania. We "skipped the line" and walked right in with a simple display of Stefania's badge upon entrance (which was amazing). Her knowledge of the history of the Colosseum and Ancient Rome was impressive enough on its own, but her passion, energy and radiant smile was what I remember best, as well as her mastery of the English language. I don’t know about all the guides but the two we had ( Selena and Elisa ) amazing in their knowledge but more than that, they were fun and engaging. We engaged Eyes of Rome for two tours during our post cruise stay in Rome. On this tour our guide was Serena and we toured the Colosseum and the Forum area. Serena met us on time at our hotel. During our tour she was very knowledgeable and very personable. She used her I Pad to show us how the ruins would have looked like in their day. She was very conscious of our comfort - rest stops, hydration, etc. She asked us questions to gain an understanding of our knowledge of the specific history of what we were looking at before explaining the site. A unique and very tailored approach. She also gave us advice on restaurants and shops that the locals patronize. We give Eyes of Rome and Serena the highest rating and will definitely use them next time we are in Rome.

We had a private family tour of the Colosseum and Roman forum with Elisa. The tour was truly excellent. While the Colosseum and Forum were unusually busy when we went (public holiday), Elisa swiftly navigated us through the crowds and into the Colosseum. She was highly knowledgeable and supplemented her descriptions with a photographic presentation which really helped us to understand the history of this remarkable construction. Importantly, she also made it fun for our children who loved the tour. The tour continued with a walk through the Roman Forum. Again, Elisa's genuine love for the history of her city shone through and we found this part of the tour very interesting and entertaining. Our tour guide did a great job providing information and bringing all the sites to life. She was very well prepared and in addition to all the facts and stories, she has a few visual aids to help understand how the sites have changed over time.

Elisa was fantastic. We had our 2 daughters with us (ages 5&8) and did a morning tour of the Colosseum. It was a very hot day and Elisa was great with the kids, very flexible and knew how to adjust based on their attention span. She was very knowledgeable, had great energy toward the kids and all-in-all it was a wonderful experience. We learned a lot too! Grazie Elisa!

Fantastic tour with Valeria, a true Rome local with so much information to share, but she did not overwhelm us at all. She had great pictures to share which helped our understanding. Our time went by too quickly. She was also really sweet, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her! Thank you so much, Valeria! :)

We were hesitant to hire a private tour guide as we had already paid for the hop on hop off tour bus; however, after the first day on the bus, we realized we wanted more. We also knew how expensive the hotel and food was that we initially thought we didn’t need a private tour guide as there are so many books and audio tours on Ancient Rome. We were wrong. We needed the tour and it was worth every Euro. Our guide Alessandro was a trained archaeologist and funny. We needed both. He was able to answer the adult questions and keep our boys entertained too. We would highly recommend Alessandro for anyone who feels like we did and wants to hear more and see more than you could on your own or on the big red bus.

Elisa, was an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide. She had really had command of the history of the forum and coliseum and explained it like a great teacher would. The 3+ hours went by quickly but it never felt like we were rushing through anything. She took the time to make sure we understood everything; yet did not overload us with a lot of minutia. Had great illustrations of what both places looked like in their time period and we were easily able to connect her teaching points and place ourselves in them. An extremely memorable and enjoyable tour. I really recommend doing this tour in the early morning if going in summer. It gets really hot and crowded and touring early let’s you minimize the effects of both,

He took the time to get to know us and offered to take plenty of pictures. This is a great tour for first timers that don’t really know their way around. Thanks Francesco!

We booked the Private Colosseo tour for a half day and a Rome Private Walking tour the next day and we were so fortunate to have Maria Linda walk us around both days! Our family of 4 adults (us and 2 children in their 20’s), all agreed that we gained so much knowledge from her tours. We were visiting Rome with our children as adults because they didn’t remember much from when they were little and Maria Linda really knows her history. Her pleasant disposition made us feel like we were walking with a friend and she was so gracious with her responses to our questions. She was considerate about bathroom stops, water refills, and stopping in the shade when taking us to a site. She even recommended a restaurant where we had our best meal in Rome - no small feat! I will certainly look her up on our next visit to Rome and recommend her to anyone for their next visit. Grazie, Maria Linda and Eyes of Rome!

We had an amazing time learning about all the history behind the Colosseum and the Roman forum. The private tour it was well worth the money. We skip past all the people on the long line and we got our full three hours worth of information. It felt personal and private to have our own guide. If we had any questions, Barbara answered immediately and we got to do our day how we wanted to. Barbara was amazing, she was so informative and really knew the history of Rome. It was such an amazing time! We also had our own guide to take pictures where ever we felt we could get the best shot. The pictures came out awesome and are memories we will cherish.

The key attribute that made this tour great was the - EXPERIENCE! There is a difference between experiencing life in Roman times versus someone telling you information. Alessandro has studied Roman History most of his life. He has a real talent for describing what life was like in Rome and what the motivations of the people were that lived there. He has palatable pride in the history of Rome and his enthusiasm and passion create an experience that makes you feel what life was like in Roman times.

We had such a positive experience with Eyes of Rome five years ago during our first trip to Rome, we decided to use them again for a private tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We were not disappointed. Gianluca met our family of four (ages 16-63) promptly at our hotel, and we walked to the Roman Forum together. He had such a wealth of information on both sites and presented it in a fun and interesting way, not to mention the convenience of skipping the long line at the Colosseum and being able to walk right in. Gianluca knew just the right spots away from the crowds to stop and explain things along the way. He squeezed in so much information, yet was very accommodating to us and allowed plenty of time for picture taking, etc. I would highly recommend Eyes of Rome and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Just spent 15 days touring Italy, and without question one of the highlights of our trip was this tour, both because of its just fascinating subject matter, but mainly because our guide Ornella could not of done a better job. She met us at our hotel, arriving early, and immediately in the car across town started giving us one fascinating fact or story after another about whatever we saw. The tour was just my wife and I and our 3 teenage daughters, and immediately Ornella had them engaged and interested. The skip the line part was perfect, and the Coliseum was amazing. She steered us to all the best viewpoints and took great pictures of our family throughout the tour. In the coliseum she was pointing out lots of interesting side exhibits that we would have otherwise missed or not understood, giving us one fascinating fact after another, and steering us expertly through the crowds. Then we walked up palatine hill and got an amazing immersive tour experience. Ornella brought the ancient history to life all around us. She took us throughout the ruins of the ancient palace, we looked down over the circus maximus on one side and the entirety of the roman forum on the other, and all the while she was bringing the vistas to life with her knowledge and enthusiasm. The tour and Ornella were amazing from start to finish. Shes a genuine a kind person, and her knowledge was boundless. Cant recommend her or this tour enough.

Simone grew up in Rome and has a formal education in archeology and was a great guide, host, and educator. Five stars. Outstanding. We had 1.5 days in Rome and we did this tour on one full day and then did the "Prime early bird Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica tour" the next morning before catching a train out of Roma Termini at 13:00. Fantastic tour for both morning and afternoon with our guide, Luisa! Skip-the-line tickets for Colosseum were absolutely essential. We had 3 young children and 2 grandparents on the tour and after a morning of walking in the hot sun, the golf cart tour recommended to us was an excellent decision. As for Luisa herself, she was a great storyteller whose passion showed through during the tour and was very knowledgeable. We needed to find a restaurant for lunch in between and she recommended a restaurant that was much appreciated as it was near (saves us from walking), well air-conditioned and served excellent food. She even went beyond her call of duty when I told her I needed to run to a supermarket to find diapers for my baby and offered to walk with me to find it (in case I needed her Italian to save my life). Thank you, Luisa!

I traveled to Rome with my 2 daughters (ages 8 and 10) a few days before meeting my husband for a family cruise. This tour was our first excursion of the trip and one of our favorite memories. I purchased the tour and one other on trip advisor in advance and received an email from Eyes Of Rome requesting our hotel information. I replied with the information and requested a guide who worked well with children. On the day of our tour we were greeted in our hotel lobby by Fabiana. She was very friendly and immediately began bonding with the girls telling us she has 2 daughters almost the same age. The hotel pick up was very convenient and helpful our first day in the city. During the drive Fabiana began giving us information and pointing out landmarks along the way. Our first stop was the Forum. This was my favorite tour of our entire trip. Fabiana kept my children and myself fascinated with the information she provided. She was very informative and kept the kids interested at all times. She provided pictures to help us imagine what the area looked like in ancient times and told us interesting stories. We went at a pace the girls were comfortable with and stopped to take photos and drink water as frequently as they liked. Our next stop was the Colosseum. It was crowded, as expected, but Fabiana got us through the line in no time and took us to the less crowded areas. Her expertise was a life saver as it would have been overwhelming to fight the crowd without her help. Again she provided information to make the venue come alive for us. My older daughter was eager to buy souvenirs so we had some time n the gift shop before exiting. At the end of the tour, Fabiana led us to a taxi, told the driver where to take us and paid for the ride. Again very convenient and easy. We had such a wonderful experience with Fabiana that we requested her her for our tour of the Vatican the next day. I highly recommend this tour and Fabiana. We had many tours throughout our two week trip and Fabiana was our very favorite guide. My girls repeatedly asked if she could be our guide even when we were in different cities or countries.

Our first official tour in Rome and we couldn’t be more happy thanks to Azzurra. We arranged this trip through TripAdvisor before leaving home and received clear instructions via email. Azzurra picked us up on time with a cheerful attitude even though it was HOT. She was very thoughtful in keeping us in the shade and checking in with how our teenage son was doing as she knew he had suffered from heat exhaustion the day before. She speaks English very well and was able to give us a lot of historical information and happily answered our questions. The Colosseum is a must see. I was a little disappointed with all the refurbishing work they are currently doing as it takes away from the view, but that should not stop anyone from going. Loved hearing all the historical information Azzurra shared with us.

The Drop-off service was terrible. The guide was desperately trying to book a cab to take us back to hotel. We waited >30minutes in the hot sun. The Drop-off service should not even be offered as part of the package if it is not all pre-arranged which what we paid for. A small refund of 15 Euros was offered. But this is no compensation for the long wait of >30min in the hot sun after walking 3 hours during the tour. Extremely displeased.

Yes, a private tour is expensive, but the amount of knowledge and stories you'll hear customized to your interest vs. trying to simply visit on your own is night and day. Not to mention the time you'll save gliding past long lines. Our tour guide, Simone, is an archaeologist and was a perfect fit for my Roman history nerd husband who has always dreamed of traveling to Rome and seeing the sites in an in-depth way. Simone kept our 12 year old engaged for three hours as well (though she was pretty tired after three hours in the sun). My one bit of advice if traveling during the summer is bring water. Both gift shops were sold out when we were there so we bought from the illegal vendors outside (with kind warning from our guide that we might be ticketed if we do so). The only constructive feedback I have for Viator is that this should not be a pick-up/drop off tour for groups of more than 3 now that Uber is nearly gone from Rome. We spent the first 15 minutes trying to find a cab that would take 5 (and finally gave up and took two cabs). Just tell us to meet you at X point and our group of 4 can fit into one cab and get there on our own.

Alessia Rinaldi with Eyes of Rome gave us Roman History that was exciting, informative, and fun. The lines were wrapped around the Colosseum. Alessia had our tickets in hand and we had a feeling we were at DIsney World with Fast Passes in our possession. We did not wait for 2 hours to enter - but were inside within 10 minutes. Her explanation of history made us feel as if a Gladiator, lion, tiger or any of the other animals that were housed at the colosseum would appear at any moment. Walking along the paths of the Roman Forum made the history of Cesar / The Gods come alive. She explained the restoration processes and the active excavations that are still in progress. Although it was a rainy, windy morning when our tour guide from Eyes of Rome met my sister and me at our hotel, we could immediately tell that our time with Stefania would be special. She warmly greeted us and made sure we had the necessary gear for the weather. After our taxi ride to the Colosseum, we quickly swept past the long lines standing in the rain at the entrance and started our tour. Stefania's background is in art history, but she demonstrated an excellent background in the history of ancient Rome. Her presentation was vivid and engaging, never lapsing into mere recitation of facts. Eyes of Rome refers to their guides as story tellers and the description is perfect. We could visualize the raucous crowds at the gladiator games and other public spectacles. Stefania also helped us appreciate the architectural achievement of this massive amphitheater. Likewise she brought to life the Forum as the center of public life in ancient Rome. Stefania responded readily to our questions and tailored her presentation to our interests. After the tour was completed and we asked for a recommendation for lunch, she walked us to a restaurant patronized by locals and away from the tourist traps surrounding the Colosseum. Finally, we asked for suggestions for churches to visit and she sent an email with several suggestions with descriptions. Based upon her suggestions we visited the only medieval church in Rome, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, which was delightful. We left feeling we not only had enjoyed a great tour -- we made a new friend!

I took 2 tours with the brilliant Elisa Taddei - it was a last minute trip to Rome and my hotel put me in touch with the company. I was wary at first as I'd heard bad stories from people going on tours of Rome - but this was exceptional and worth every penny. For three hours Elisa brought ancient Rome and the Coliseum to life in exactly the same way she'd done for the Vatican tour the previous day. Her English was excellent and she was so expert at one point even local Italian girls stopped her and asked her questions which she was happy to answer. It turned out their schools had been getting the history wrong. My only regret was that I didn't take the 3D glasses tour which I will definitely do next time. I couldn't recommend Elisa highly enough. I hope you're lucky enough to get her as your guide.

Many thanks to Gianluca Pica, our tour guide, whose knowledge and passion for all things Roman made this the best three hours of sightseeing in Rome. I would definitely recommend a private tour to at least one venue while visiting Rome. The level of information you acquire is beyond that available during a group tour.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time with Marco I can't think of anybody that would be more knowledgeable in archaeology.architecture and history. It was like being with a friend who is extremely knowledgeable of the areas that we went to and was able to answer all the questions that we had. Thanks Marco I hope to do it again soon sometime ciao

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting with Serena and Simona for the morning debrief on the Vatican museum and Sistine chapel. They were informative, friendly, and down to earth. We were fast tracked right into the Vatican museum when everyone else was stuck waiting in an extremely long line. In the afternoon we had a private tour with Simone - a native Roman. He is an archeologist who has spent years digging at the forum and in Egypt. His history knowledge was extensive, and he vividly explained the different layers of history found in Rome and at the colosseum in particular. The whole tour was impressive and we could have easily spent 3 more hours exploring Rome with Simone. I would recommend Eyes of Rome to anyone and can easily see why it’s rated so highly

We had a private tour of the Colosseum with Elisa. She had been doing those tours for many years and it showed with her wealth of knowledge. It didn't sound as if she was reading off a script with cheesy jokes like other tour guides. She was genuine, took the time to answer all of our questions, and laughed at our stupid jokes. The entire tour was the highlight of our Rome trip. I can't recommend Eyes of Rome (we used them for a Vatican tour as well) and Elisa enough.

My family has been to Rome before but my sons couldn't really remember the Colosseum since they were very young. Also we didn't have a family-friendly tour guide like Serena with us back then. Serena picked us up at our accommodation and from the get go gave us a lot of information about Rome. We learned a lot from her. Even though I've been to the Colosseum 3 times already I learned the most during this trip. The boys specially enjoyed it since they had just finished training at the gladiator school so a visit to the Colosseum rounded things off for them and Serena incorporated this information into what she shared with us. She had a lot of photos, pictures and videos to share with us to bring the sites to life. She also asked the boys questions to keep them alert and interested. Serena was friendly, kind and thoughtful. She made a point of finding somewhere comfortable and away from the crowds for us to sit while she told us about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. She got snacks for the boys when she noticed their energy flagging (after doing Gladiator training and walking a lot). She also gave us recommendations on what else would be interesting for the boys and also good places to find pasta, pizza and, most importantly, gelato! Frigidarium was great! Thank you Serena. We feel like we made a friend in Rome.

We had a marvelous day with Rosie at the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Catacombs and St Clemente church. We booked the tours through our hotel and were lucky to Get Rosie (Rosalba) with Eyes’s of Rome. Rosie is so knowledgeable and energetic and kept us on a great pace. Her explanations of the history brought everything to life. Rosie is a great story teller and you can tell she really loves what she does. We will definitely call Eyes of Rome and ask for Rosie next time we visit Rome

Simone Lanna was by far the most knowledgable tour guide I have ever encountered. We toured the forum and collesium. Every question I asked (and there were a lot) Simone answered with precise detail. He was able to span years of Roman history and tie them all together. I was most interested in how the Coliseum operated and how the population participated. Simone explained it all as if we were there. Would suggest, if possible, book him. You will not be disappointed if you truly want the real deal.

What could have been better on our first day in Rome than to have Alessandro as our guide. A group of four: two of whom had done a similar (good but nowhere near as good as Alessandro’s) tour in 2015 with another company, and two for whom this was their first visit to Rome. To have an archaeologist as our guide to these amazing ancient sites was a bonus and Alessandro’s thorough knowledge of his subject linked to his friendly, approachable manner and easy charm made the three hours fly by and we all learned so much. Can’t recommend highly enough. It was a privilege to have such a splendid guide. Many thanks.

10 of us traveled for a sporting for a sporting event and decided on the private Colosseum tour. We were fortunate to get Marco as our guide (dont know 2nd name). Sometimes you get tours and you know the information shared is scripted which over time can come across as disinterested. Not with Marco!! He was him back in Rome after doing a dig in Tehran, his job is archaeology and historical ruins and history behind them. Wow, did he know his stuff and kept it relevant and interesting throughout. Even when he was not able to take us into the Forum due to the strong winds, he was able to take us to a separate historical church and spend 45-minutes there taking us through this history including a visit to the underground crypt. The 3-hours just flew by and everyone stated it was a great experience

We arranged 2 tours with our 4 children, ages 13, 10, 8 and 2. Thankfully, we had Paula for both tours. She was fantastic! Not only did my husband and I enjoy the tours, but our kids, who usually ask when it's going to be over, were totally engaged. Paula had activities planned for them all through the Vatican/Sistine Chapel and the Colosseum tour . She even brought them little gifts at the end of the tour. When I asked my 8 year old if Paula changed his opinion of tours, he said, "YES! I liked her. She was really nice." Thank you, Paula, for making it such a pleasant experience for our family. We are very grateful for you and will continue to recommend you to our friends and family when they visit Rome :)

Everything worked just perfectly. Our guide Maria and driver Fabio picked us form our hotel at agreed time. We went directly to Colosseum, without waiting and afterwards we walked directly into Forum Romanum, skipping the line there as well. Maria was incredibly friendly, spontaneus and professional. She gave us a huge amount of interesting information in very comprehensive way. She did her best to make the tour intersting for our teen-aged daughters. We were walking in our own tempo. Stopping whenever we wished to stop, for making fotos, asking questions... At the end of the tour, we decided to continue our sightseeing and it was no problem for our driver Fabio to dropp us off not in our hotel but to drive us to other place according to our choice. We higly recommend this tour. If you can afford it, just do it. It is absolutely worth it.

It makes no sense to me that people spend so much money to get to Italy and then go cheap on the experiences that they went there to have. Our private tour made Rome so much more enjoyable! We were picked up at our hotel by Serena from Eyes of Rome. Admittedly it was January so crowds were not bad, but we just walked right into everything as if we were the only ones there. Serena was full of enthusiasm and knew so much about the city and its history and sites. We had a wonderful experience. I was traveling with my parents (age 77) and she was so accommodating and considerate of them. We've had other good experiences with Eyes of Rome and Viator. I plan to use them again.

Simone was our tour guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable, with a background in archaeology and experience with excavation in the Forum. He was also very personable and charming, just a fun person to spend 3+ hours with. The skipping the line claim is absolutely true, and even in December the line at the Colosseum was very long. Unfortunately there is no skipping the security/metal detector lines which are very unorganized but Simone helped us navigate that mess. He knew so much about the Colosseum and the shows there, but what I really liked was how he gave us the perspective of the gladiators. He then took us to the Roman Forum, and told us stories of Julius Caesar, Marc Antony, etc. It was an unforgettable tour, and I'm so glad we went with Eyes of Rome and Simone who is the absolute best.

Paola was an amazing guide for our private tour of the Colosseum and RomanForum! She had a wealth of knowledge on the Colosseum and Roman Forum and Rome, and took her time answering our questions and expanding upon them- including those not related to the site. As soon as we got into the car, she started sharing information on Rome and our surrounding areas. This was not my first your of the Colosseum and Paolo was leaps and bounds above my previous guide! Her English was impeccable, she was warm, personable and incredibly intelligent. The private tour is worth every penny as it allows you to pace yourself and focus on the items of interest to you and you see so much more. If it hadn't been our last day, I would've wanted her to be our guide on additional sites in Rome! Wonderful job Paola!

In November three of us enjoyed 2 fascinating tours in Rome with our charming guide Michela Gristina. On both days, she met us punctually at our hotel and we were happy to find she speaks excellent English. Michela's enthusiasm for her subject and her knowledge as an archeologist vividly brought to life the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican Museum and St Peter's. Having Michela as our guide on both tours, enriched our time in Rome immeasurably. The weather was warm and she kindly made sure we carried water with us. She was happy to lead us at a pace that suited us, with no sense of rush, and she always provided interesting answers for our numerous questions along the way. She told us that the layers of history and civilisation in that great city are often compared to a 'Lasagna'. Michela certainly served us generous and delicious portions of that Lasagna that we will never forget . When we return to Rome for another helping we will specifically ask for her to be our guide again. Grazie Michela!

Our guide, Francesco, took us around the outside of the colosseum and gave us a history lesson on what led to its development. Later, we made our way inside and were astounded by the building’s design - modern stadiums are very similar! Francesco’s delivery is very conversational, and he makes the Roman ruins come alive with his humorous and imaginative descriptions. The tribunal and Roman Forum simply have to be seen to be believed. Excellent tour!

After having an amazing private tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, we will never go back to going it alone. Our guide, Michela Gristina, who I highly recommend was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about her job, spoke excellent English and taught both myself and my ten year old son so many things that we wouldn't have found out about the Colosseum and Roman Forum otherwise. Michela was very easy to spend the afternoon with and being a mum herself, she was great with my son, keeping him captivated for hours (no easy feat) and answering his many questions. Thank you to Michela and Eyes of Rome for making our trip to Rome one we will never forget. We can't wait to go back!

Although the choices for reviews only allowed for one tour, our experience was so exceptional that we booked four days. We were fortunate to be led by Gianluca, who is not only knowledgeable, but passionate about Roman history and art. My sister and I felt as though we understood in a very complete way the link between the art and architecture and the history that created it. While one would need much more time than the week we had to explore these subjects, we had the best foundation. We had loads of questions in all areas and Gianluca always had the answer at the ready! In other words, he was patient and available. I recommend without reservation!

We decided to indulge ourselves and book a private tour and we are very happy that we did. We had a wonderful guide, Katie, who was very knowledgeable, patient and just a nice person to spend half a day with. Our tour was very informative and pleasant especially as we could move easily without being in a large tour group. We asked questions that were always nicely fielded by Katie with in depth answers. To top off the great tour after it was over, Katie recommended a place for lunch that wasn't overrun by tourists and provided us the best pasta during our whole visit to Rome. There is a reason the ratings are so high as the guides obviously love what they are doing and make it a great experience for the clients.

We had a lovely tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum with our tour guide, Luisa. She took us through the Forum, giving us great background and history into the place, which really helped us appreciate what we were looking at. She moved through the tour at a good pace, so we didn't feel overwhelmed with information. The Colosseum was very crowded, but Luisa did a good job of moving us through there, and giving us some interesting facts as we moved along. We also really liked a book she carried with her, giving us a glimpse of what the Colosseum and Roman Forum looked like many years ago, so we could picture the significance of the ruins. Overall - excellent tour. Luisa was very personable, took pictures of us when we asked, and clearly knew her history. Our guide Gianluca was articulate, well-informed and funny! 40 years ago we walked thru the Forum and had no idea what we were looking at. This time with Gianluca we were able to appreciate it so much more! He even brought illustrations of what it originally looked like. Because of our early start we had the place to ourselves and it was even more moody and atmospheric. At the Colosseum, we negotiated through the crowds and got the picture we had missed on another trip. From the moment a friend told me about them and I began to inquire, the staff were responsive, patient with me (and I asked A LOT of questions over about 7 months!!), helpful, and accommodating. Called me the day prior to arrival to do a final confirmation. The tour guide Serena was beyond amazing. knowledgeable and fun, good with the teens who began to get tired, patient, suggested good restaurants. We ask lots of questions, many off topic and Elisa was always super excited to share her knowledge and then focus back so we were sure not to miss anything. We loved spending the morning with her and would highly recommend you request her if she’s available. After our tour she was super helpful and guided us to our next stops and even rode with us in the taxi helping us with the driver in communicating our next destinations. Amazing tour - loved it!

We had a great morning with our private tour guide Elisa, she was very knowledgeable and portrayed the information in a easy and understandable way with the use of her tablet she showed us photos of what the places looked like when they where built. I would highly recommend this company and Elisa and when we next come to Rome will be using them again. David

My husband and I did a private skip the line tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum with Roberta - would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking to do a tour. She arrived at our hotel early (which I appreciate)...she was full of knowledge, easy to understand and a pleasure to tour with. We learned a lot and was one of the highlights of our honeymoon.

This was my fourth time at the Colosseum. My first time was in February of 1982. Then over the years I went back two more times with other people. Tourist are not allowed on the Colosseum floor any more. Do not miss seeing this! I was amazed every time I saw this beautiful Wonder of The World.

Giuliano is an archaeologist and was therefore able to provide deep insights into the culture and engineering. One of the most interesting discussions was comparing Egyptian and Roman engineering. The day was hot and Giuliano was able to find shady spots for some of our great discussions. It takes real skill to bring alive the Colloseum and help us imagine civilisation at that time. As a guide he is absolute top shelf. Thank you for a wonderful 3 hours.

Hello, we were fortunate enough to secure a private tour with Paolo on short notice. She met us at our Airbnb near the Spanish Steps. We grabbed a taxi and headed straight to the Colosseum to begin the tour with her. She was extremely personable and it felt like we had met up with a long time friend who we hadn't seen for a while. She customized the tour to meet our needs (older teenage boys and parents with varied interests) and shared many interesting historical points that we would not heard otherwise. As we neared the end of the tour, she was very helpful in guiding us to restaurants and other areas of interest before we headed back to the hotel. I highly recommend Paolo and her tour!

We did a private Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour with Paola and it was perfect for our group. She is a wealth of knowledge and truly speaks from the heart! She instantly connected with each person in our group and made sure that everyone was comfortable. I loved that she would make sure we were shaded, had water, and was so thoughtful overall about our needs. She shared the beautiful history and opened our minds, hearts, and souls to the beauty of Roman culture and history. Not only did she connect with us on the history of where we were, she gave us helpful hints about traveling and things to watch out for so not only were we safe and taken care of with her, also as we continued our explorations! I highly recommend requesting Paola for any tour you may do with Eyes of Rome. Anyone I know, I certainly recommend her! I can't wait to return to Roma and spend more time with her! Grazie mille!

I booked this tour months ago knowing that it would be the smartest way to see the Colosseum & Roman Forum with my family during the hot summer in busy Rome when we only had two days and were trying to pack in as much as possible. Last Saturday, Francesco (our guide) picked us up at the hotel nice and early before the day started getting to hot. Francesco was wonderful! Spoke English fluently and was not only extremely knowledgeable -- he was highly entertaining. He made us laugh and he made us think. The three hours flew by. He is a treasure. Viva Roma!!

Our family of 6 landed in Rome on Wednesday, July 11th, and we were fortunate enough to have Luisa meet us at our hotel at 3 PM that same day. She was friendly, personable and very well informed Her English was amazing and we all felt extremely comfortable with her from the minute we met. She went out of her way to make Ancient Rome come alive. She tailored the tour to our particular requests and went out of her way to make sure we had a thorough understanding of life in Ancient Rome. We could not have asked for a better tour guide. Hotel pick up and drop off were a definite plus.

Our guide, Roberta, was extremely knowledgeable regarding the history of the forum and the colosseum. Every question that we posed, she had answers and knowledge. Her English was extremely good and we could understand her perfectly. She was at out hotel promptly to pick us up and got us a taxi back to the hotel at the end of the tour. I recommend this tour early in the morning because the crowds were not in the forum and they were just beginning at the colosseum. Plus it is very hot in the sun . The tour is a little overpriced, in my opinion, but we enjoyed having a private guide.

We booked Fabiana through Eyes of Rome, for the private Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour, as well as the Early Bird Vatican Museum Tour. Fabiana was absolutely phenomenal, extremely knowledgeable, very organized and very personable. She expertly tailored the tour to our specific requests, knew how to avoid crowds, and how to get the most out of the tour. We were so fortunate to tour Rome with her! We loved every minute of it, even our usually rather hard-to-impress teenager! 5 Star rating all around, thank you Fabiana!

We scheduled a private tour for 4 adults. We had the good luck to have Marta for the day. She meet us at our hotel and we taxied to San Clemente then walked to the, Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Forum. After several interesting facts and amazing stories we headed to a delicious lunch at a local restaurant (away from the crowds). We then had a golf cart tour that enabled us to see a majority of the remaining highlights of a beautiful city. I highly recommend Eyes of Rome and Marta. As my adult niece said it was the best tour ever!!!

I made an 11th hour booking with Eyes of Rome when it became apparent that it would be pretty tiring to do alone in the heat and the crowds of the summer crush. Despite the sticker shock, we were not disappointed. Gianluca was an excellent and knowledgable guide, able to keep our 10- and 12-year-olds’ attention for three hours despite imparting a lot of information. He was able to bring alive the Forum, which may otherwise have been just a pile of pillars and rubble to them.

We traveled to Italy with our 8 and 5 year old and although the adults wanted to do tours, we were a little worried about taking the kids on a tour, under the blazing sun into areas that required some imagination. After some research we settled on a private tour with Eyes of Rome. It was a great decision. It was reasonably priced. Our guide, Fabiana did a fantastic job engaging with the kids but also hitting many major points for the adults while keeping the tour succinct (and in the shade when possible!) When (not if) we are back in Rome, we will definitely be checking out other tour options with this company.

Our Colosseum and Roman Forum tour with Simone was absolutely spectacular. He was a wealth of knowledge in regards to the tour and not only spoke intelligently about the subject but challenged us with questions about what we learned. He did a great job with our two kids, 18 and 16, challenging them with questions and teaching them about the time period. If you are looking for a real learning experience about this tour he is your guy. He was also awesome about how the tour went. When our daughter was having some issues with the sun and a previous injury he totally took care of the situation by getting her a coke and some cold water. A great experience all the way around!

My wife and I along with our two teenage boys were recently In Rome for three nights starting on June 27th and we wanted to get as much out of our short time there. To help do that we booked two early morning private tours with Eyes of Rome, which included a tour of the Vatican and one of the Forum and the Colosseum. Although private tours cost more, we have found over the years that often they are well worth the extra expense. For our two Rome tours we had the good fortune to have Fabiana as our tour guide. Fabiana was nothing short of fabulous! On our first full day in Rome, she met us at our hotel and took us for a tour of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. You could not be blessed with a better tour guide. Fabiana is a genuinely nice person. She is sweet, knowledgeable, courteous and above all, professional. She holds degrees in both art history and anthropology and, as such, is more than qualified to provide an in-depth tour for your party. You could not ask for anything more from a guide. We loved her! We understand that Eyes of Rome employs other wonderful guides as well as Fabiana, which accounts for their exceptional rating. Fabiana escorted us through the multitude of Vatican exhibits, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. She is also an expert photographer and knows all the best places to take memorable photos. At the end of our Vatican tour we were so happy and impressed with Fabiana that we wanted her to accompany us on our private tour the next day at the Colosseum. We were so lucky she was available for that tour as well. Eyes of Rome had requested access for us to the Belvedere section of the Colosseum, which I highly recommend. The views from the upper levels of the Colosseum are extraordinary. Plus, it is nowhere near as crowded as the lower levels. We cannot imagine doing a tour of the Vatican and the Colosseum without thesuperlative Fabiana to guide us along the way. We highly recommend using the Eyes of Rome on your next trip to Rome. Also, if she is available, ask for Fabiana to be your guide. When we return to Rome we greatly look forward to seeing her again.

My family recently visited Rome and decided to book two separate tours with Eyes of Rome in order to get to know the history of the city. The first tour was the Private Vatican Tour while the other was the Private Colosseum and Roman Forum tour. Both were amazing! On our first tour to the Vatican, our guide was Marta. Throughout the entire tour she was not only extremely helpful and friendly but she was very knowledgable about the pieces we saw and the history of the Vatican. My youngest (9) came along and Marta was excellent with her! Overall, we had a great experience, starting with the punctual pick up at the hotel to the very end of the tour. The next day we took a private tour with Maria Linda to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Although we had gone to both sites before the tour, we were able to learn so much more with Maria Linda. She truly gave us an in-depth analysis and explanation about the foundations and ancient history of the city of Rome. Although the day was pretty hot, Maria always made sure to accommodate us and was extremely optimistic throughout the day. I was extremely satisfied with the tour and so were the kids! Although the tours may be a bit pricey, they are worth every penny! My family learned so many interesting things about the city and we were able to better appreciate both the Italian culture and Roman history. I would recommend Eyes of Rome to anyone visiting Rome in the future!

This was our first family trip to Rome so we decided to take a few private tours instead of group tours or doing it alone. It was the right decision. Sara S. was an excellent tour guide and we had a wonderful afternoon with her. The tour of Ancient Rome (Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Forum) was incredible. Sara was very friendly and knowledgeable, and, I appreciated the additional materials she brought with her to help illustrate what Rome, The Colosseum and the various ruins looked like when they were new. The pace and distance covered was comfortable. The views were amazing. Overall, an excellent value. I highly recommend the private tours rather than the group tours with 40-50 people. The private tours might cost a little more (really not that much), but, they are so much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this specific tour.

What a treat to have a private guide for my family of 5, including a hotel pick up, drop-off, and unlimited questions about the experience. Francesco was knowledgable and had clearly planned the tour with a lot of thought. He was patient with our 21-month old baby and fun and friendly (but not disingenuous at all) with our 6 and 8 year-old children. As a Rome native, it was obvious he had a lot of pride in the importance of this place and it was wonderful to be guided by someone like this. We would definitely take another Eyes of Rome tour, with Francesco especially!

My wife and I were on our first visit to Rome, and for that matter, to Europe. We had been told by a friend to get a private tour of the Roman ruins if at all possible. Our stay was going to be short in Rome (3 days), so we decided to take our friend's advice. They were absolutely correct. Our guide, Giuliano, was terrific and brought excitement and wonderful historical knowledge to all of the areas of Ancient Rome that we saw. He was able to get us through all of the entrances quickly (no lines/fast pass) and straight to the ruins. The fact that he was an architect made it even more exciting as we has able to take us back in time to the time when these incredible buildings were constructed. He was as excited as we were to see the attractions and we loved his energy throughout the tour. I have told many of my friends about this tour back here in the states and I can wholeheartedly say that it was the best thing we could have done while in Rome.

Valeria Canfarini, our guide, was excellent. We visited Rome 5 years ago and thought we had seen the Coliseum and Forum----wrong! Valeria filled in so much detail we (just my husband and myself) felt we were visiting for the 1st time. The tour is well worth every Euro. Valeria built in sufficient time for our pics and travel (walking) time between the Coliseum and the Forum. We were not rushed but kept a good pace in order to enjoy every second of our 3 hour tour. Recommend: good walking shoes and water, plus a good camera.

As recommended by a relative, we used Eyes of Rome to book this private tour to the Colosseum. Our relative also told us to request Karin Libri as our guide. So this is what we did and it was nothing short of spectacular! Having this private tour with Karin allowed us to bypass the long lines which that part alone was worth every penny. Then Karin's incredible amount of knowledge had our minds swimming with so much history and information. She made it extremely interesting and NOT like we were sitting in a history class. Since it was just my husband and me and our guide, Karin, we were able to get to know each other a bit which was quite nice. Karin was exceptionally sweet and asked us for our opinions on where we wanted to go next. She also did not rush us and let us spend as much time as we wanted in the various stops along the way. After we were finished with the Roman Forum, our tour was done, but as she did not have anything lined up directly afterwards, we invited her to lunch with us. She agreed and we got to spend more time getting to know her. If you are considering booking this tour....DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER! Well worth it and make sure you request Karin Libri. We utilized Eyes of Rome for a tour in Rome (May 29) and in Florence (May 30). In Rome, we had a group of 13 (including two children) and in Florence we had a group of 16 (including three children). In Rome, we opted to do the Colosseum Tour and had Maria as our Tour Guide. A couple of us had already been to the Colosseum before (and had a private tour guide then). However, the majority of our group had not, so we found Eyes of Rome and decided to give them a shot. We were so blessed to have Maria. She was so engaging and provided so many details about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum that those of us that had been there many times before...learned something new. She kept the children so engaged and told so many stories that the kids said this was one of their favorite stops on our vacation. We were able to see so many things within the Forum Maria was a wealth of knowledge and I would highly recommend utilizing her for any tour that you book within Rome. We were on a Disney cruise, so our next stop was in Florence. In Florence, we had more of our travel party attend the tour. Our tour guide was Marco. Let me say, this was just as good as our time in Rome. We were running late (as our charter bus was coming in from Livorno, and we had to drive to Florence...) and our bus driver couldn't speak English that well, so we asked Marco to call our charter bus driver and he literally met us right at where the charter bus was dropping us off. The walking tour took us throughout the city and Marco was so knowledgeable, kind, engaging, and helped us to learn and enjoy the culture of Florence. This was my parent's favorite tour and I would highly recommend this one as well. Overall, you cannot beat Eyes of Rome. Both of our tour guides were a wealth of knowledge and had so much charisma that was engaging the entire time we were with them. Do not hesitate...utilize them. It is so worth it.

Quick entry, tons of knowledge and was considerate of our needs as well. Spent 3 hours with us explaining everything we wanted to know and not Overdoing it in areas we didn’t care about. It was her knowledge and attention to details that really made this tour special. We literally just got back into our accommodations and I had to take the time to write up this review because we were so impressed with our guide...Giuliano! Giuliano met us at the apartment we were staying at and took us to the Colosseum/Forum tour in the morning and then to the Vatican/Hidden Gems tour in the afternoon. We were blessed with Belvedere tickets that allowed us to go to the top of the Colosseum....stunning! Everything that everyone else has written about the Colosseum/Forum/Vatican is true....it is absolutely breathtaking. My family of 5 (myself, wife and 3 kids) were amazed at the structures, their history, their beauty. But what made the tours truly memorable was our guide Giuliano. We had 3 boys (ages 15, 13, 11) and he catered to them excellently! He was entertaining, incredibly informative, patient and accommodating. His knowledge and understanding of Rome were beyond our wildest expectations (he was born and raised in Rome, now 36 yrs old). He was able to get us into rooms in the Vatican that the general public was not allowed. He was always smiling and encouraging...even when we wanted to stop every 5 minutes for a family picture. Everything went so incredibly smooth...it was so refreshing. We bought the "skip the lines" tickets and they worth every penny! I can't imagine standing in those lines and waiting 2 - 3 hours just to get in. I would strongly encourage anyone considering taking a tour of Rome to use "Eyes of Rome" and request Giuliano. I did quite a bit of research on tours of the Colosseum. I finally decided on Eyes of Rome based on other reviews. We had a group of 4. Maria met us at our hotel and we started to tour. Maria is very passionate and enthused about Rome. She walked us through history. If I would have bought tickets to the Colosseum and we would have walked through without her we NEVER would have come away with the appreciation and understanding we have now. We hung on every word she said. I am still telling friends and family what I learned that day. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Europe. It was so interesting and she brought pictures of how things looked back when the Colosseum was being used. This tour would be perfect for any age and for any size group. The tour was 3 hours and we covered every detail. I can't say enough about Maria and this tour. It was worth far more than we paid.

Maria got on her phone and called her office and within 2 minutes we had tickets for another line. We walked right up to security and into the coloseaum where she gave us a very informative tour and then over to the forum with the same passion she had for the whole tour. Very informative and it was great to be in a small group of two, just my wife and myself

My wife wanted to give Rome to her Mom for her 80th birthday, so the three of us took two tours with our phenomenal guide, Tancredi. They were the highlights of the trip! We toured the Colosseum and Roman Forum one afternoon, and the Vatican Museums the next day. Tancredi is a doctoral student in art history. He is not only super knowledgeable, but thoughtful, friendly, and he was attentive to our interests, needs, and questions. We could not ask for a better guide! Organization is top-notch. Tancredi met us at the hotel, tickets were arranged, and we didn't have to wait in long lines. First-class in every way. So glad we did this!

We had a really enjoyable tour. Barbara put so much thought into bringing Ancient Rome to life, not just describing the architecture.

We were a party of 6 adults, and as the self-elected head of organising everyone, I was deliberating about whether or not to book a guided tour of the Colosseum, roman forum and the catacombs. I’m so glad we did! Before we eventually made the booking, we contacted Eyes of Rome and they were great at directing us to the best tours given our requirements. We decided to book the Colosseum and Roman Forum but they also offered us the option to make amendments (add-on’s) on the day. Our guide, Elisa, met us at the meeting point on time and Eyes of Rome had passed on our earlier interest about seeing some other sites. Elisa gave us the option to add the visit to San Clemente Basilica and the Catacombs at Priscilla. Her expert knowledge meant we saved ourselves a lot of disappointment as she amended the tour to make best use of the time. We first went to San Clemente Basilica and the Catacombs and got some detailed information about the history of these places which weren’t available in the guide books, or on the general tours. At the time waiting for a taxi was a bit of a pain (Priscilla is a bit out of the centre), but with hindsight it gave us a nice break from all the information (not that it was overloading just so much that was interesting). Elisa was on the phone sorting out how to get us all back to the Colosseum – something we would have had no chance doing as we spoke very limited Italian. At the Colosseum we had skip the line tickets and although you have to go through the usual security checks for bags etc… and queue due the sheer number of people, Elisa was still making the queueing interesting and fun. She explained all of the architecture and renovation work that had been undertaken. The Colosseum was really good – Elisa’s descriptions of the events at the time and now were really good but we were blown away by the size and scope of the Colosseum to take it all in. Where Elisa really came into her own was the little details and the expert knowledge of the history of these places. Nowhere was this more obvious than in the ruins of the Roman Forum. She was a fountain of knowledge and really brought the place to life. All in all, everyone loved the tour. Elisa was friendly, informative, happy to answer all questions we had and nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn’t normally consider a private tour guide but Elisa may have converted me! Very highly recommended!

Tancredi was a kind and gentle speaker with a plethora of interesting tidbits that were above and beyond the standard information that should be the foundation of any tour. He was able to answer my questions and he was mindful of my mother's needs during the tour (shade, breaks) without losing time or information. Thank you for a great walk!

My husband and I booked this tour as part of our two week vacation. Our guide Katie met us at our hotel and got us to the Colosseum with ease. I was nursing a sore hip and she adjusted our itinerary to make sure I was comfortable throughout the day. I can not say enough about how wonderful Katie was, sharing her vast knowledge of the history of this amazing site. She answered every question and did a beautiful job of helping us to envision what was happening in the arena and the forum in ancient times. This tour was special and worth every euro. Thanks Katie and Eyes of Rome for this incredible experience.

Marco Teodonio was the consummate guide throughout our private tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. He was friendly and entertaining while always being aware of his work guiding us, keeping us clear of queuing crowds, making sure we were well hydrated and coffee'd up... Marco's exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate about his beloved city of Rome and is enthusiastic about sharing that with us. Which made our time with him entertaining, fascinating, and truly enjoyable. Rome's weather was great, Marco was great... what a great day!

I cannot recommend "Eyes of Rome" enough! and especially Alessandro, for a private tour of the Colosseum. Alessandro is an archeologist with a huge knowledge of his subject. He is also entertaining and good company! We had a wonderful 3 hours with him and learnt far more than we would ever have done without him, plus its a great feeling to walk past all the queues! I also love that I now know why all those little holes are in the walls of the Colosseum! Thank you so much Alessandro, Sending love from us all.

We spent two fantastic days with Marta walking around Rome. Our tours were of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Ancient Ruins, the Vatican and St Peters Basilica spread over 2 days. Marta is exceptionally knowledgeable but also passionate about everything we viewed giving us great insight and also making it interesting and fun for our 9 year old son. Our 2 year old daughter came on the tours with us and Marta was very helpful and accommodating making it effortless and enjoyable for us all. Our Story Teller was Barbara De Rosa. I'm not sure the tour I picked above adequately describes the tour we took but it was the closest in the list. Barbara picked us up at our hotel and we toured the Coloseum, Forum and Pantheon and several other sites in Rome. Barbara was very knowledgeable about all the things we saw and she was very pleasant to be with. She was also flexible as we added some extra stops along the way and extended our tour with her an extra hour because we were having a very good time. Barbara gave us a lot of very interesting information about each of the things we saw even when we added some things that weren't scheduled ahead time and she was also very good at communicating in our language which isn't always the case when travelling in a foreign country.

What a blessing it was for my wife Rhonda and I to be introduced to Rome by Ms. Silvia M. We could not have hoped for a more special and memorable experience. We had never been to Rome before and it is hard to imagine how our day with Silvia could have been better. The day started with Silvia taking the time to really understand what was important to us during our day together. She listened closely and made truly excellent suggestions for how to structure our day. We visited many well known sites (e.g., the Pantheon was the PERFECT first stop) as well as sites in the Jewish Ghetto that are not seen as much but were truly amazing and beyond special. Again, we felt blessed to be on this tour. In addition to great knowledge about Rome, Silvia had a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine personal warmth. Her knowledge and love of archeology was something that she also shared when she made clear and incredibly helpful suggestions to spend time on our own in the days following our tour with her. We will return to Rome. Soon. There is no question that we will be sure to take additional (ideally, multi-day) tours with her and with this fine company. We can never say thank you enough. Barbara was outstanding. She whisked us past the lines into the Coliseum, gave us a very welcome education on the building, the times, guided us through the Forum. We then kept her for a little longer and took her to the Pantheon. But she also gave us great tips on where to spend out time, including the Tresteverde neighborhood near the Vatican. Well done, Barabara! Molto grazie!

Our tour guide Roberta picked us up at our hotel and gave us a wonderful tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. She made the whole experience fun and easy. We were able to skip the lines and concentrate on all the fascinating information she provided. Roberta used an iPad to help us visualize what the Forum would have looked like in ancient times, and that was tremendously helpful. We particularly enjoyed hearing how the Colosseum was built on Nero's ancient lake and the origin of its name, seeing the arch of Constantine and the arch of Titus, and Julius Caesar's altar. Roberta knew a lot, and it showed. Roberta also gave us great tips for navigating Rome. Great trip altogether!!

If you want a tour that is customized to your interests and level of knowledge, you will not be disappointed with Eyes of Rome. We had the above mentioned tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum with the addition of a Catacomb. On another day, we had a tour of the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's, and the Sistine Chapel. Both tours were full of interesting information and stories tailored to our wishes. Each of our tour guides (Stefania and Serena) were delightful and helpful with advice for other aspects of our stay in Rome. Money well spent for 2 of the main things we wanted to see and learn more about.

We can’t say enough good things about our tour and tour guide. We chose to have a private tour of the Colosseum and the Forum and so glad we did. Our tour guide Elisa T met us at our hotel right on time and we went to the Colosseum. She provided so much history and background that I fear we never would have gotten had we chosen to visit on our own like so many others. We quickly bypassed the entry line and had a wonderful tour. We then walked over to the Forum and while the Forum is not as well preserved as the Colosseum having a guide makes history come alive. It is a large site so there was lots of walking and our guide made the tour fun. We would definitely book with Eyes of Rome and Elisa again!

Simply put, our family of six (all 55-plus) had an amazing private tour! Thank you Eyes of Rome and Ms. Barbara De Rosa for making our day special, especially after a disastrous start when the tour we booked with another company three months prior was cancelled that morning. Thankfully, Debora at our hotel (Hotel Artemide) highly recommended Eyes of Rome and within an hour we had a tour set up later that day (a good thing too since this was the only day we could visit the Colosseum). Our tour guide Barbara met us at our hotel and had a mini-van waiting for us that took us straight to the Colosseum. I was very worried since my sister needs a wheelchair and my dad is, shall we say, a slow walker, but within minutes I knew Barbara was special as she guided us through the crowds and right into the Colosseum with skip-the-lines access. NOTE: skip the lines is a must if you plan to visit the Colosseum or Vatican, especially on weekends! Barbara was patient with the slow pace our special-needs group, leading us around paths or obstacles where a wheelchair couldn't pass, making sure we saw everything. Barbara led us to the best viewing spots where she pointed out relevant highlights, with pictures on her iPad providing added insight. Three of our group had been to the Colosseum before, and we all agreed this tour far surpassed those we took before with other companies. Getting into the Roman Forum is a difficult challenge for a wheelchair, but Barbara knew right where to go and got us past the barricades with minimal problem. I strongly recommend Eyes of Rome... and I give my highest 5-Star rating to Barbara!

The city came alive as she told us stories and shared pictures of what the areas looked like in it prime and we were able to understand how it changes and has been revived as a premier site. Last week my family and I (two adults and a boy of 8) visited Rome. An unforgettable moment , even in the pouring rain. Very friendly and clear information , from a professional and very entertaining guide. Gianluca also showed images of the Ancient Time in Rome, and gave us the opportunity to translate his explanation to our youngest son. He certainly has got an excellent idea of the life in Ancient Rome now. Two days later we went to the vatican museum and St Pieter, also with skip the line tickets. Also these three hours were super interesting, with a lot of info we did not read in the classical brochures. Gianluca is a man who leads the profession as a guide to the higher level. Thank you very much for your 'teaching' moments, and we hope to meet again!!!

Last month, my family and I took a two-week vacation in Italy. We could not leave without a tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. After researching, I went with Eyes of Rome tour and I could not be happier with the experience. We did not opt for the hotel pick-up and drop-off but we met up with our tour guide, Silvia, at the front of the Colosseum. It was an easy taxi ride from the center of Rome. She was so pleasant and fun to hang out with. Also, her knowledge of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum was incredible and made the experience so much better. I highly recommend this tour company and Silvia, if you can make requests for a tour guide. I also recommend a private tour rather than the group one because it is much more personal and you don't have to wear an audio device. Silvia even recommended a great restaurant for lunch after.

We very much enjoyed our private tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with our charming guide and storyteller Marta Palombi. Her knowledgeable narrative kept us entertained and interested during our 3 hour private afternoon tour. Marta had brought with her a number of illustrative books with which she recreated many scenes of Ancient Rome. It brought everything to life - time simply flew. Marta followed up the tour with a personalised email recommending further reading materials. We were very impressed and cannot wait to return for another tour with Marta.

This company offers private tours! I repeat, a private tour....just the guide and your family. This is a big difference compared to other places. I found them on Tripadvisor and noted stellar reviews (over 1800+)....I can see why. We had Mr. Giuliano as our guide for the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill. What a thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable experience. We covered these areas in 4 hours but never felt rushed. We could stop for breaks; stop in an area longer if we had questions, etc. His tour recommendations were spot on. A big thanks from our family Giuliano!!!! As a side note, I did a lot of my own planning for this trip and a regret is that I did use them for other tours like the Vatican early tour. Over Easter, that place was crazy and a early entry would have made it more enjoyable.

A group of 6 of us travelled to Rome for 6 Nations Rugby. Two years ago we had an excellent tour of the Vatican Museums with Alessandra from Eyes of Rome so decided to use the company again this time. We opted for the Private Tour of the Colosseum and Forum. In order to keep things simple with the pick up, we arranged a van to take us plus the guide to our destination. Our guide Luisa, and transport were punctual and we were at our destination without delay. Luisa then set the scene outside the building as to what we would have seen in its heyday and then took us inside. We saw all the relevant bits above ground in an unhurried and informative way. We then moved to the Forum and proceeded through it at an easy pace. Again, Luisa was informative and unhurried. When we emerged back out of the Forum, it was difficult to believe that 3 hours had gone by. We got a recommendation for lunch from Luisa (Il Corallo) which we used, and which was very good. Luisa was great fun and knew her stuff. The tour was also competitively priced for 6 of us. If we return in 2020, we'd like to do the tour of the underground spaces at the Colosseum, and we'll certainly use Eyes of Rome for it! Be warned though. There's a lot of walking and some of it is steep at times. Oh, and don't forget a camera of some sort. The views from above the Forum are breathtaking!

Given that we all had a pretty good grasp on Roman history she quickly dig deeper and pointed out things that would have gone unnoticed by us if we did a tour by ourselves - an original bronze door, a drainage system, the different levels of original structures. Not only did we get a great tour we got to learn about Roses life in Sicily before coming to atone to study art history and her contemporary life here wen Rome. As a party of 10 we had a guided tour of the Colosseum and Forum Romanum which we had organised through our hotel concierge. Our guide, Gianluca Pica, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and really seemed to enjoy sharing it all with us. He patiently answered all our questions and made the ancient stories come alive. The tour cost €60/hour with a minimum of 3 hours which was split between the whole group. We also paid extra for Fast Track tickets to beat the queues as they were quite long even though we were told it was fairly quiet as it was February. We fitted in both the Colosseum and the Forum quite comfortably in the 3 hours and also had time for a coffee break in between. I would recommend Gianluca and Eyes of Rome to anyone who wants a really fun, interesting, informative and fascinating tour of any of Rome’s ancient sites.

Stefania arranged a perfect day in Rome - a private tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, and Pantheon. She tailored the trip perfectly, giving us enough (but not too much!) detail on the history of all of the sites, plus helpful tips on where to find the best food and wine bars :) Stefania really made the attractions come alive. Rather than just looking at ruins, we felt like we got a great appreciation for the stories of ancient Rome. Very educational, entertaining, and interesting at the same time! For the rest of our time in Rome, my husband and I found ourselves saying "this would be so much better if Stefania were with us" frequently. I wish we had booked more time with her!!

Fantastico! Our guide, Maria, was bubbly, fun, and an archaeologist who works on the Forum. Talk about insider's knowledge! She picked us up at our hotel and was a knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide for our entire time together. She made the Colosseum and Forum come to life, showing us the important features and explained how they were used Ancient Rome, what happened to them over time, and the work that has been done to bring them to what we saw that day. She carried visuals and books that showed us what the places looked like in their prime, which helped a great deal. She walked us up to the Palatine Hill, showed us the Circus Maximus, took us through the Forum, and then helped us with suggestions for the rest of our trip. A wonderful, educated guide and we couldn't have been more pleased with this fun and highly informative tour!

This was a highly informative tour. Our guide explained all that was necessary and when we asked him questions he was a mine of information. He collected us from our hotel and showed us exactly where to pick up a taxi to get back again.

Excellent experience! I regret having toured these places before on our own, as this is definitely the only way to go. Hotel pickup was perfect avoid not knowing where to be or who the guide is-- she even waited for us an extra 20 minutes when I misread my agenda and incorrectly thought our tour was the next day!! Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly, and her English was impeccable. My 20 year old son had studied both this specific history as well as Latin and still, we learned so much more! I'm thrilled with this tour and highly recommend it!

Our tour guide Alex met us at our apartment in Rome and quickly made arrangements for us to arrive at the Colosseum. Alex is an outstanding guide, very knowledgeable, yet able to provide information at a pace that was manageable by both my wife and I AND my two young daughters. His love of the city of Rome was radiant from the moment we began our tour and remained so right through until we finished out our tour several hours later. Time went by so quickly, yet we all felt as though we had seen and learned so much !! My family and I all agree that we would be very happy to recommend Eyes of Rome to any friends or family visiting this beautiful city. JH

Booked this tour as part of family trip,to Rome. Our Guide Marco Mancini arrived to collect us from our hotel very promptly. Marco is clearly a passionate historian indeed he is an extremely experienced archaeologist and kept my family and I fully entertained and informed on the tour. We started at the Coloseum and through the archeological zone visiting Basilica Santiago Cosma and Damiano and finishing in Santa Maria Aracoeli. Throughout the tour he was giving great insight, answering our wquestions with ease and adding colour to the stories and legend of Old Rome. I would not hesitate to recommend him as a tour guide to anyone visiting Rome

Our guide was Linda and she was so enjoyable! So glad we did this tour. We did not need hotel pick up so we met <br/> Linda in front of the Colosseum The weather was perfect and she was wonderful. Very knowledgeable. Linda answered every question we had, told stories that made the Colosseum, The Forum and Palatine Hill come to life! Time flew by! Love Viator for finding this company Couldn't have enjoyed the day more. Tons of people standing in line and just walking through places not knowing what they were seeing or understanding the history. As Linda was speaking to us other people would try and stop and listen to her! Definitely a must when you are in Rome! Thank you!
